THE ROASTOLOGY STORY
HOW IT STARTED
After 13 years of Cafeology, we were keen to use our knowledge and expertise to expand and embark on a new challenge.
We founded Roastology - the in-house, bespoke coffee roasting side of Cafeology - in 2016.
Located in Sheffield’s industrial heartland on the former Tinsley Cooling Towers site, our state-of-the-art roastery forms the beating heart of our operations.
THE ROASTOLOGY TEAM
The roastery is overseen by our head of coffee, Steve Hampshire. Steve is a Speciality Coffee Association (SCA) qualified coffee roaster with over a decade of experience in the industry.
If you’ve ever met Steve you’ll know how passionate and enthusiastic he is about coffee. This, combined with additional SCA qualifications in green bean and sensory areas, experience in markets and green bean purchasing and numerous origin trips under his belt, make him an integral part of Roastology’s development and identity.
Steve is supported by a dedicated and enthusiastic team, including our roastery manager James Tibenham and production team members Jack Coates, Steve Oldfield, Fergus Blowen and Kelly Gamando.
OUR EQUIPMENT
The roastery is home to our Diedrich CR35 and Diedrich DR25 roasters, which we use for small, artisan batch roasting to ensure quality and consistency.
The roasters’ unique heat exchangers combined with infrared gas burners allow us to roast with conductive, convective, and radiant heat with total control whilst massively reducing gas consumption.
ROASTOLOGY COFFEE
The artisanal nature of the way we roast means we can work with our customers to develop unique blends and roasts that best suit their requirements and tastes. And that’s what we love to do most!
We offer a comprehensive range of ethically sourced premium coffees from around the world, all of which have full traceability and some of which we source directly to ensure security and fair prices for coffee producers.
If you would like to discuss your coffee requirements and visit the roastery, please get in touch.
