We were delighted to receive a visit from our Costa Rican producer, Roberto Mata, today in Sheffield.

Roberto is the producer at the first ever coffee growers’ cooperative to gain carbon neutral status in the world – Coopedota, Costa Rica.

He visited our HQ, then took a trip down to our coffee pod at the Decathlon sports store for a hot cup of joe (his own!) brewed by our baristas. If you fancy trying some yourself it’s ‘The Green One’(!) and you can buy bags at the pod or here.

We were then treated to a presentation by Roberto at Sheffield Hallam University’s Granary building about carbon neutral coffee and how he has worked to gain carbon neutral status.

Coopedota has implemented innovative production processes with the clear objective of benefitting members and inhabitants of the Los Santos region, by creating projects of local, communal, national and international interest.

These projects include work in areas such as sustainable development, reduction of gas emission to prevent global warming, creation and awareness of recycling culture, reduction of water consumption, utilisation of coffee by-products, implementation of renewable energy and further initiatives.
